Hair and Beauty Thoughts

So… What Have You Been Doing With YOUR Hair In Quarantine?

With salons out of bounds and home workouts (A.K.A. Sweating) on the up, what exactly are we supposed to be doing with our hair during isolation?
I am a black woman with a natural barnet and I didn’t realise when the country went into lockdown that what grows out of my scalp would be a worry to contend with.
I’ve gotta tell you that I alone do not possess the answers, I wish I was the kind of writer that you could trust to pull the answer out of my curls but unfortunately for us both I am not. However all is not lost friend, put down the scissors and step away from the mirror. I decided to consult the masses; I asked family, friends and readers of The Sistem to give me some hair tips, tricks and hacks so that we can all eventually leave our houses with the tresses we deserve.

Some of us are taking advantage of the down time in quarantine as an opportunity to put some love and affection back into our tresses with at home treatments like Kemz who slid into our comments on instagram.

The tips don’t stop there friends, some of you have me feeling like my simple co-wash is NOTHING!

The tips turned a bit weird and wonderful when I turned to my girls’ Whatsapp group, I mean I think now is the time to tell you that you may or may not want to try these at home. There is no pressure from me and  I genuinely accept no responsibility for you hair health because some of these are wild!

Don’t feel bad if this exhausts you, even though we all wish we were; not everyone is as dedicated as that.Screenshot 2020-05-15 at 09.44.49

We feel you girl, I mean DON’T DO IT but also DO YOU.

The point I am trying to make with this article is that there isn’t really a RIGHT answer when its to what you should be doing with your hair during lockdown. There aren’t a set of rules to follow and while it is quite a nice thought that the silver lining of this shit-storm of a cloud could be that you get the waist-length-locks you have always desired, it doesn’t matter if the most you can manage is a simple wash every two weeks, or month… Or so lol

Drop your suggestions in the comment box and help a girl out! xx

  1. Loved this article, I have read so many blogs and watched videos to try and keep my hair healthy during this time. I have spent a small fortune on new hair products and a hair steamer. using the LOC method, seems to be working currently.

  2. Hope it’s not to late to drop this but I find that incorporating water, then using products such as aloe Vera and leave in conditioners, into my hair routines has helped me a lot. Also switching up protective styles has been good!

I have a book that teaches you how to do different protective styles, if anyone wants to check it out at:
